Surrounded by tropical greenery, colorful flowers, and the natural landscape of the Sierra Madre, this same sex wedding in Puerto Vallarta was a beautiful celebration in one of the area's most distinctive settings: Vallarta Botanical Garden.

Instead of the traditional beach or resort backdrop, this couple chose a wedding surrounded by nature, creating an intimate and colorful atmosphere that felt completely different from many destination weddings in Puerto Vallarta.

A Same Sex Destination Wedding in Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta has long been a popular destination for LGBTQ+ travelers and couples looking to celebrate in Mexico. Beyond the beaches and nightlife the city is known for, the surrounding region also offers incredible natural settings for couples who want something more intimate and personal.

For this celebration, Vallarta Botanical Garden provided exactly that: tropical landscapes, mountain scenery, and a peaceful environment where family and friends could come together for the wedding.

A Wedding at Vallarta Botanical Garden

Vallarta Botanical Garden offers a completely different visual experience from Puerto Vallarta's beachfront venues. Dense tropical vegetation, colorful flowers, pathways, natural textures, and the surrounding mountains become part of the atmosphere of the wedding.

For photography, those surroundings give us plenty of opportunities to create portraits that feel connected to the destination while still keeping the couple at the center of the photographs.

A Celebration That Felt Personal

What we remember most from weddings isn't necessarily the décor or the location. It's the people and the interactions happening throughout the day.

Our approach was to give the couple space to experience their wedding while documenting the laughter, emotion, family, friends, and spontaneous moments happening around them. When it was time for portraits, we provided direction while keeping everything relaxed and natural.

Wedding Photography in the Tropical Gardens

The Botanical Garden gave us an incredible variety of backgrounds without needing to travel between locations. Tropical plants, flowers, architecture, and pathways allowed us to create very different portraits within the same environment.

Rather than taking the couple away for a long photoshoot, we worked with the available light and surroundings to create a mix of refined portraits and more spontaneous photographs throughout the celebration.

An LGBTQ+ Destination Wedding in Mexico

A destination wedding is also an opportunity to create an experience for everyone who has traveled to celebrate with you. Puerto Vallarta combines the energy of the city with beaches, tropical mountains, restaurants, nightlife, and natural landscapes, giving guests plenty to experience beyond the wedding itself.

For LGBTQ+ couples bringing family and friends together from different places, that can turn the celebration into several days of shared experiences rather than a single wedding day.

A Tropical Wedding Beyond the Beach

Puerto Vallarta may be famous for beach weddings, but the Botanical Garden shows another side of the destination. Moving into the mountains transforms the scenery, replacing sand and palm-lined resorts with dense vegetation, tropical flowers, and the landscape of the Sierra Madre.

It's a beautiful option for couples who love Mexico but imagine their wedding surrounded by greenery rather than directly on the beach.

Planning a Same Sex Wedding in Puerto Vallarta

For any destination wedding, a good timeline makes the experience considerably more relaxed. Transportation, tropical weather, family photographs, natural light, and the transition between different parts of the celebration should all be considered when planning the day.

We also recommend leaving some flexibility around portrait time. The light can change quickly in a tropical mountain environment, and being able to adjust by a few minutes can make a significant difference.

Same Sex Wedding Photographer in Puerto Vallarta

At Underground Studio PV, we photograph couples and weddings throughout Puerto Vallarta, Punta Mita, Sayulita, San Pancho, Riviera Nayarit, and the surrounding region. Every couple and celebration is different, so our goal is simple: create photographs that feel beautiful without making the wedding feel like a photoshoot.

This same-sex wedding at Vallarta Botanical Garden was a perfect example — an intimate celebration surrounded by nature, family, friends, and the tropical landscape of Puerto Vallarta.
